Welcome to the Shackteau
It was In 2012 that I began to take retirement seriously. I wanted a fishing cabin close to my beloved Margaree River. A run down cabin on the famous Cabot Trail perched above Doyle’s Pool had been available for several years and looked suitable, if not perfect. It took several years to strip it down to bare bones, renovate and remodel this little gem. Eventually I was able to stay in complete comfort from April to November.
I retired from teaching high school in 2016 and spent six months traveling to places around the world I had always dreamt about. It was during that time that I discovered the Airbnb model of sharing accommodations. Would travelers be interested in renting the Shackteau when I wasn’t staying there? The answer was a resounding yes!
My wife, Wilma, agreed that a move to Margaree was the best thing for us going forward in retirement. We built and moved into a new house on the property in June 2022. The Shackteau then became available during the entire fishing and tourist season. The reviews have been great and many guests return each year. For that reason I’ve decided to become independent and use this web site to promote the cabin. It will still be listed on Airbnb, but the availability may not be accurate.
Have a look, consider some of the many other fine listings in the area, and perhaps you will decide the Shackteau in Margaree Forks is the choice for you.
As of May 2024 a futon is available to accommodate guests who prefer to sleep in separate beds.
